My last ever braces tightening appointment?

Welcome to my latest Braces at 30 blog post where I share my experience of wearing a brace as an adult with updates from each appointment. I had my braces fitted when I was 30 years old. I’m now 32 and have had braces on for over two years! Below I share what happened at my latest appointment.

My last ever braces tightening appointment_

Braces at 30 | 18th Tightening | 25 Months

This was another appointment where we thought I may have my brace removed and retainer fitted tomorrow, but not the case, again. Third time lucky in May! I’m sure in four weeks we’ll be ready to roll! I’m pretty certain this is my last tightening appointment. I knew they weren’t ready to be taken off today, but the changes left to make are so minimal it has to be ready to come off next month! I’m not so excited for the coming off though as the false teeth day will be most exciting for me. I need a veneer and a false tooth either side of my top front teeth, so this will be the exciting day for me in around seven months.

Here’s what happened at my latest braces appointment:

Top teeth

All the gaps are closed, woohoo! But my right canine has twisted slightly so we’ve gone back down a wire to untwist it. Doh! That pesky tooth just wants to stay twisted! Hopefully nothing else will move out of place in the next four weeks.

Bottom teeth

There are just some minor gaps between my front teeth in two places. These are caused where my teeth are uneven on the sides so my teeth meet at the top, but don’t line up evenly. We’ve filed a little more off the top sides of the teeth and hopefully these will close perfectly now by the next appointment. All other gaps are closed. There’s also a tooth much lower than the rest so the wire has been twisted to try and raise this tooth by the next appointment.

A few minor adjustments over the next four weeks and I should be able to have the brace off. Eeek! Terrifying as I’ll have gaps and eating around people will be awkward as I’ll have to take the retainer with false tooth off to eat, but exciting as closer to getting the false teeth and end result.
